Addaction http://www.addaction.org.uk/  A leading UK charity working solely in the field of drug (and alcohol) treatment with over 70 services across the UK. Addaction is currently piloting a programme – Breaking the Cycle –which offers support to the whole family.

Adfam http://www.adfam.org.uk/html/index.cfm An organisation for families affected by alcohol or drug use. The Adfam website is a resource for family members (and professionals) looking for information and support.

Al-Anon http://www.al-anonuk.org.uk/ An organisation providing support to adult family members of people with alcohol problems. This website also provides information for professionals coming into contact with those affected by someone else’s alcohol use.

Aquarius http://www.aquarius.org.uk/ The leading substance use agency in the Midlands, providing services to substance users and family members. The website contains general information for users, family members and professionals, as well as information about services available.

Alcohol Concern http://www.alcoholconcern.org.uk The national agency on alcohol use. This website provides information for professionals including a series of fact sheets and briefings, and information about training.

CAFADS http://www.cafads.org.uk/ Website for the Children and Families Alcohol & Drugs Service. This website contains information for families and professionals, including information about CAFADS training and consultancy.

CoreKids http://www.corekids.org A specialist organisation that works with the children and families of alcohol and drug users. This website provides information about the organisation, its objectives, philosophy and intervention programme.

Clouds Families Plus http://www.clouds.org.uk/ An organisation exclusively dedicated to providing services for family members in their own right.

ENCARE http://www.encare.info/  A website providing information for professionals who come into contact with or work with children living in families where a parent has an alcohol problem.

Families Anonymous http://www.famanon.org.uk/ An organisation for family members and friends concerned about another person’s drug use. The website also provides information for professionals.

Social Work – Another Way http://www.another-way.co.uk/ Tools and resources for Child and Family Social Work, including information about Option 2 – a therapeutic crisis intervention service where there are serious child protection issues related to parental substance use.

 

Sarah Zohhadi is a Researcher in the Mental Health Research & Development Unit (University of Bath, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) and works on the Alcohol, Drugs and the Family Programme.
